I would like to know more about the American Flag.
In what year was the flag first authorized by Congress?
and secondly, when was the flag first carried into battle ?

I can answer part of your question...The general form of the present day American flag was delieneated by order of the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. George Washington is said to have raised the first American flag at Somerville, Mass., on Jan. 1, 1776, some believe that it was John Paul Jones, comander of the Ranger, who first flew the American flag in the year 1778. I do not know which battle it was first carried into...do you?
