Intended audience
Content of the home page
The content of all categories / sections

Include a list of all links to internal / external sites and resources. The method(s) of identifying the intended audience will be stated.

The method(s) of refining content will be discussed or stated.

A structure chart showing……

A chart drawn by hand or using a computer. The chart will show:

how the site is organised and grouped ie.

    • hierarchical
    • by subject
    • by function etc.

where the pages are, and will include arrows to represent the route users would use to navigate their way around the site.

R eferences to internal links and external links to other sites.

Describe how you would use graphics and / or text-based navigation appropriately.

Description to include:

Text –
Use the minimum number of words to form a link
Suitable words ie. Back, Home etc.
Careful positioning, use of size and colour.
Importance of consistency of presentation and function.

Graphics –
Suitability of graphics image used
Need for consistency in use of image and function.
Use of ALT tags for images

Identify benefits of using both text and image for a link to give user a choice. Graphic size, and the page load speed should be discussed.

Design issues you will need to consider.

Setting a theme

Should include the importance of continuity of presentation.

The home page

  • Need for fast load.
  • Need for "impact"
  • Need for simple navigation

Second level pages
Minimal "branding" to make space for content

Navigation

  • Consistency of approach / function
  • Positioning of navigation facilities
  • Hyperlinks (textual or image )
  • Global navigation facilities on each page
  • Standard navigation bar to provide contextual navigation
  • Perhaps: repetition of navigation bars at top and bottom of page.

Technical recommendations


Minimal scrolling within a page
Use the web-safe colour set
Make hyperlink colours consistent
Be aware of user needs if colour blind or visually impaired.

Place them in order of importance (number one being the most important) and explain why.

The order of importance will vary according to the operational context of the selected site ie. its size, content, user group, complexity etc.


However, the answer given should reflect a thoughtful and reasoned approach to the rating of importance – the explanation of the reasons for the ordering being of primary importance.
